What made you accept Insaaf-The Justice?

The script deals with the issue of rape, which is prevalent in our society. Just as people do advertisements for a cause, we in our capacity as actors can make people aware of the seriousness of rape and how women can fight for their rights and dignity. Being a woman, I felt that by working in this film, inspired by the real-life rape of an IAS officer, I would be creating such an awareness.

Your career seems to be on the right track now, what made the difference?

I'd say Vaastav was the turning point. Also Pukar. With these two films I proved that I could do both commercial and offbeat cinema. I have not been slotted in any genre. Even though the film Hathyar (a sequel to Vaastav), did not work, it did win good feedback.

When I listen to a script I do it in totality. I view my contribution to the film's storyline. I also see whether my role would leave an impact on the audience's mind. It could be a 2 scene or a 25-scene character. I like to do a film which excites me, which I can relate to and which makes me grow as an actress.

What type of a person would you say you are?

I am reserved and it takes time for me to open up. I cannot be outrageously friendly to people I do not know. I have a few close friends and I do not feel the need to make new ones. Even my friends tell me, 'Oh God! So and so finds you so snobbish.' But as long as I feel that I am doing the right thing, it's fine with me.

Why do you like the book Conversations With God, by Neale Donald Walsh so much?

I am not an avid reader but I like philosophical books which are reality-oriented and applicable to life. Fiction is removed from life. I feel it is meaningless to read about things that may never happen.

Conversations With God is a narrative by the author, his experiences and how you could apply them to your life. It has four volumes. There is another book, Talking To Heaven (I am quite uneducated about authors, not being a regular reader), which interests me as well. I am awed by life beyond death and an insight into the beyond, rather than a Mills and Boon.

What are your other passions besides acting?

Travelling. Whenever I feel the urge, I just get away by jet or even road. I am a person who never plans anything. Even where movies are concerned, things have just happened to me.
