`Sancharam`, a bold film

Sancharam directed by Ligy J. Pullapally takes a detour and scours terrain rarely touched upon by Malayalam film makers- homosexual relationships.
The film begins with the story of two childhood friends Delilah (Shruthi Menon) and Kiran (Suhasini V. Nair) who grow up together. The girls are always in each others company be at home or school. Delilah is the bubbly kind while Kiran is sober.

The film comes at a time when Karan Razdan’s Girlfriend has just released and the curiosity level that such a film which deals with the relationship between same sex is high. But the director says that the likeness of the film ends here and Sancharam has succeeded in highlighting the issues surrounding the lesbian-gay status. She says: “My film reflects a phenomenon that occurs all over India and in many other cultures”.

The cast also has KPAC Lalitha and Valsala Menon among others. Music is by Issac Kottukapally and camera is by MJ Radhakrishnan. Confesses Ligy: “I hope that my film will help young gays consider the option of moving ahead in life instead of taking that devastating step of suicide”.
