Mannarasala Ayilyam 2011, Alappuzha
Mannarasala Ayilyam was celebrated on 22 Oct 2011. The ezhunnullippu was started at 2.30 pm headed by 'amma' to illam. It is the only one temple with a woman as chief priest. The groves and numerous snake head statues is a pleasant experience to devotees. Lakhs of people visited the temple during the festival. Free food was served to all on Ayilyam day. Drawing of sarpakalam and pujas continued till midnight - sarpabali. Pulluvan pattu (song) was another offering. Noorum palum, nilavara payasam, appam were served as prasad. The snake temple is located 3 km from Harippad in Alappuzha District of Kerala.

Lips piercing is done using a spear headed silver 'soolam'. Blessing the devotees by placing hands on head and receives dakshina (cash). Body is smeared with ash and turmeric powder. A number of chains worn, a steel vessel to collect money and a large 'bindhi' on forehead.
