A 3 hour road travel from Kargil takes one to Parkachik via Panikhar. One hour trek takes to Parkachik glacier. Trek to Shafat (20 km, BC for Nun). Mt. Nun is the closest peak from a road in India.

Zanskar gets isolated during the winter months, as the only road link is via Penzi la get closed due to heavy snow fall. Road condition is very poor due to flowing of a number of streams over the road.

Kargil - Suru Valley - Rangdum - Penzi la (4450 m, 160 km from Kargil) - Sani - Padum (Zanskar region) : 240 km, 14 hour by jeep.
