"MY hero has sung all the songs in 'Kandasamy'," says a proud director Susi Ganesan at the press interaction to announce the momentous event. Looks like cinematic history is being written here. But when national award winning actor Vikram is involved, that’s quite normal! Reviving a tradition when actors used to sing in their own voices in the early years of cinema, actor Vikram has sung all the four songs picturised on the hero in his forthcoming film 'Kandasamy'.

Music director Devi Sri Prasad is ecstatic. "We thought of doing only one song, Excuse me, Kandasamy with him. But he has sung like such a professional we decided to make him sing Mambo Mamiyar also. It was quite different, since it’s in a high range. Vikram was hesitant because of this, but in the end he gave it a shot and its come out very well," laughs Devi.

So how did the idea originate? Susi fills us in, "Vikram had taped some medleys of his and I had heard them. They were really good and I was surprised he could sing so well. So I told Devi it would be nice to use his voice in Excuse Me 'Kandasamy', whi ch is a mix of dialogues and verse. Producer Kalaipuli Thanu agreed immediately and that's how we persuaded Vikram. Soon we decided to make him sing all the four songs picturised on him."

Susi feels that it will be a big advantage for the film. "It's a big plus when an actor himself is the singer. He can give his maximum output of emotions into the song since he knows the entire story."

And what did Vikram himself feel about it all? "Susi has been very encouraging in everything I wanted to do in this film. He has used all my natural talents and singing is one of them." Interestingly enough, he hasn't learnt singing formally at all but has dabbled in instruments at the boarding school he attended. "I am a jack of all trade," grins Vikram.

Producer Kalaipuli Thanu is all praise for his team, "Susi has taken 'Kandasamy' to another level altogether. A song like Poda Podi will be sung by every child!” Lyricist Viveka has written the lyrics for all the songs, breaking the trend of using multiple lyricists in each film. With so many added attractions and a talented team to fulfil them all, looks like 'Kandasamy' is raising expectations. Let's hope the film lives up to them.
