LCI English Center is a language school near I-25 and Evans. It was founded in 1995 by Dr. Nancy Perala, but recently changed management and has been growing rapidly in the past few months. We met with LCI’s staff to determine what was their change in strategy and why they have grown so fast in recent months.

Earlier this year, LCI English Center changed management and began to expand its services beyond basic English classes. By adding other services, such as Academic English, Accent Reduction and Test Preparation, LCI English Center has been able to reach a new group of students, which helped the school diversify its student base. “It has been amazing how many of our students have brought their friends and relatives to sign up at LCI” says Lon Koenig, LCI’s Assistant Director. “The students have told us that they like our teachers very much and that they feel at home at LCI”

LCI English Center offers many different courses to satisfy the needs of different students. “We don’t offer only one approach,” Koenig explains. “Some students speak very well and want only to improve their writing. Other students read and write very well but struggle when they speak. Whether a student needs general English, accent reduction or business writing, we have a program for them.”

In fact, it is our flexibility that has made LCI so popular with its students. “LCI’s philosophy is to listen to our students and work hard to accommodate their specific needs” Koenig says. “Some students have student visas through LCI and are required to study full-time, but others want to study part-time and focus on a specific skill, such as reading, writing, listening or speaking. We start by identifying the student’s needs, and then we give them options to reach their individual goals. Our curriculum is structured, yet flexible enough to address varying needs.”

Besides flexibility, LCI’s quality teachers have helped LCI expand. “One of our biggest selling points is that we have great teachers. We hire experienced ESL teachers with expertise in a certain area. For example, all of our Academic English instructors have master’s degrees or higher,” explains Dr. Scott Olsen, LCI’s Education Director. “We hire test prep teachers who did extremely well on the test they teach, who also have ESL experience,” Dr. Olson explains. “We specialize in combining our ESL experience with our test preparation expertise. Other companies do one or the other, but not both. Test prep for non-native speakers is one of our niches.”

LCI offers free tours of their school and the option to observe a class for free. To schedule a tour and talk to an advisor, prospective students may contact LCI at 303.756.0760 or via email at [email protected].
