NEW DELHI: The national film awards for 2007 were announced here yesterday.

Priyadarshan’s Tamil film Kancheevaram has bagged the award for the best film.

Adoor Gopalakrishnan was adjudged the best director for his Naalu Pennungal. Best regional film award goes to Ore Kadal. Ouseppachan has bagged the award for the best music director for Ore Kadal. Pattanam Rasheed bagged the award for best makeup (Paradesi).

Tamil actor Prakash Raj got the best actor award for his performance in Tamil film Kancheevaram. Umashree gets the best actress award for her performance in Girish Kasaravalli's Kannada film Gulabi Talkies.

Frozen, Gandhi MY Father, Gulabi Talkies lost the award for the best film to Kancheevaram. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film depicts the lives and times of silk-weavers of Kancheepuram in pre-Independent India.

Chak De gets the award in the wholesome entertainment category and Taare Zameen Par in the family welfare category.

Playback singer Shankar Mahadevan has won the award for the song "Meri Maa" from the film Taare Zameen Par.

The jury was headed by Sai Paranjpe, other members included Ashok Viswanathan and Namita Gokhale.
