Good things come in small packages. Nandhini JS has earned her stripes with her debut Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru (T4), a breezy and enjoyable romantic comedy.

And what really get T4 zip, zap zooming are the two likeable leads Ajmal and Roopa, their bickering and bonding is a scream. What works for the film as a whole is Nandhini’s witty screenplay laced with subtle humour and romance that blends smoothly with the plot.

Arjun (Ajmal) a habitual late comer is the creative head at a struggling ad agency run by the good natured Srinivasan (Mouli), who has a problem in recollecting names. Archana (Rupa Manjari) works in the front office at the same agency and is good friend of Arjun. One day Srinivasan strikes gold, when a major multinational client approaches him to make an ad film for a baby product.

After many baby models are rejected, Arjun in a mix-up lands with a baby who is found to be suitable for the ad. This leads to further complication as Archana in a bid to cover up Arjun’s mix-up end up in his flat mothering the baby.

All this leads to hilarious situations and more trouble, as they have to find the real parents of the wonder baby who have to sign a contract allowing the child to be used in advertisements. The story turns from a comedy of errors to a thriller as they find the child has actually been kidnapped from its real parents!

T4 has rapid fire humour, and what makes it endearing is that there is likability about Arjun and Archana and their romance is believable as they themselves realize that they are in love only in the last reel of the film. Mouli as the ad agency owner and his wife played by Lakshmy Ramakrishnan, are all filled with a joie de vivre, which makes it even more enjoyable.

The casting is perfect right from baby Darshan with his cute smile, a natural born actor and the pivot around which the film revolves. Ajmal is a revelation in his first all out romantic comedy and is one actor who keeps growing in terms of talent as he does films in different genres.

Rupa brings her character vibrantly to life with all the nuances of anger, humour, tenderness and soft romance. Mouli as the anxiety ridden ad agency proprietor is superbly restrained and has perfect comic timing.

Mani Sharma is not in the best of forms, the music could have been better. Still the pick of the lot is Jillena Veesum… a melodious romantic duet and T4 theme song, which constantly comes in the background. Sudhir’s camera is minty cool and gives it a fresh look. The film is a bit slow paced in the second half, and could do with some trimming.

Sathyam Cinemas and Real Images can be proud that they have brought about a savvy freshness to the form, hitherto unexplored. Nandhini has come out with a clean well crafted meaningful entertainer that will stay in our hearts for a long time. Go with your family and taste the magic.
