Silver is a bit trickier to clean than gold. As silver tends to tarnish with time, removing tarnish before it has a chance to build up and turn black is key to preserving your silver jewellery. If you keep your silver extremely clean, a simple mild soap and water solution should suffice to remove daily dirt and oil. However, once tarnishing begins to set in or the piece becomes heavily soiled, using a silver polish is the easiest way to remove the tarnish.
Always remember that silver is a soft metal, so be sure to use a soft cloth or brush when applying silver cleaner. Rinse the cleaner well and dry the item carefully to ensure that there is no water damage caused after the rinsing process. Tarnishing is difficult to prevent, but if you act quickly, it is fairly easy to remove.
