Manisha Koirala has been signed to play as mother-in-law of Danush in his forthcoming movie Maapillai. The film is a remake of Rajinikanth’s 1989 film with the same title. The film revolves around a clash between an arrogant mother-in-law who always tries to get one-up on her son-in-law. In the original, what worked was the clash between Rajini and Sreevidya who played his mother-in-law.

Earlier the Maappillai team including its director Suraj and Dhanush, had tried to rope in Sridevi, Tabu or Jayaprada but nothing worked. It is going to be Manisha’s comeback in Tamil films after a very long time. Her last release was Baba with Rajinikanth in 2002.
