Banasura Sagar Dam is on the tributary of Kabani river and it supports the Kakkayam dam Hydro electric power project and used for irrigation and drinking water.

It is the second largest earth dam in Asia located 21 km from Kalpetta in Wayanad near Padinjarethara surrounded by scenic mountains and ia a popular picnic spot. There is boating facility in the dam. The islands with the Banasura hills in the background provide a spectacular view.
