From Mylapore Kaapaleeshwar temple, I reached San Thome Basilica by bus. The steep spire, stained glasss windows, Mother Mary & the underground tomb of St Thomas were the main attractions of San Thome Cathedral Basilica. It is located at the extreme end of Marina beach, near the lighthouse.

On the world's second longest beach - Marina beach - crowd was a common sight especially in the evenings/holidays. MGR Samadhi, Anna memorial, Madras University were at the beach.

On the way to Madras High Court at Parrys, there was St George fort having fortification still in good condition. A small chapel was inside the fort. The High court building have beautiful domes. Here also security prevent me to approach the building. Dr. Ambedkar law collge was nearby with twin domed towers. From Parrys, I reached Chennai Central by bus.

The Chennai Central building (Railway station) and the near by Corporation building (Rippon building) were the majestic buildings on the road. Park rail way station was near by from were local trains operates to Tambaram via Egmore, Kodambakkam, guindy, Mambalam stations.

On the other side of the Park rail way station was a large cemetery of commonwealth war heroes. It was the least cared/preserved historical monument of the city. Still the grass covered tombs were more impressive and highly motivating than any well maintained war memorials.

Hope in future, Chennai Corporation/ citizens of Chennai/those who own the cemetery/defence top brass will initiate a campaign to protect the national memorial which having a great potential of motivating our youth to join the Defence forces and for tourism.

I stayed at Raveendra lodge near Central Railway station/ Mail sorting centre at Rs 200/day. There are plenty of lodges near by. I returned from Chennai by 2601 Mangalore Mail at 20.25 h and reached Kozhikode (668 km) at 8 am on the next day.

On 19th June 2010, I reached Egmore Government Museum by bus from Parrys. It is Chennai's best museum having exhibits in four buildings. Entry Rs 15, Still camera Rs 200, Video Camera Rs 500. Timings : 0930 to 1640 h. Closed on Fridays and Holidays.

Then I visited the Valluvar Kottam Memorial in the shape of a huge 39 m high chariot, located 3 km from Nungambakkam railway station (Rs 3 Entry).

Bus 21 G from Parrys takes one to Ashir Khana after the flyover. From there, St Thomas Mount was at walkable distance. The bleeding stone cross and the fine view of the Chennai International Aiprport, aeroplane landing and the aerial view of the city were the main attractions.
