Festival of Sand Sculpture, St. Petersburg




The annual International Festival of Sand Sculpture was held recently in In St. Petersburg. Subject of the festival was “World cinema”. Among the participants were Russia, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Finland, Czech Republic, Latvia, Germany, France and several others.

Festival of San Fermin : Bull Running


Spanish men and women celebrating the annual festival of San Fermin. As mentioned, one of the core attraction of the festival is bull running




The running of the bulls involves hundreds of people running in front of six bulls and another six steers down an 825-meter stretch of narrow streets of a section of the old town of Pamplona. The run ends in the Pamplona's bullring taking a mean time of around 3 minutes where the bulls are held until the afternoons bullfight when they would be killed.



Bull running is a very dangerous event. Since 1925, 15 people have been killed during the event and every year between 200 and 300 people are injured during the run.

The Spanish Baby Jumping Festival of El Colacho




Every year during the month of June, the Spanish village of Castrillo de Murcia near Burgos holds its traditional Baby-Jumping Festival as part of its Corpus Christi celebrations. During the act, known as El Colacho, men dressed as the Devil (known as the Colacho) leaps over babies born during the previous twelve months of the year who lie on mattresses in the street.



The Catholic festival of Corpus Christi is celebrated all over Spain with processions, mystery plays and a wide variety of popular celebrations, but this bizarre tradition is seen only in Castrillo de Murcia. The tradition dates back to 1620, although the origins are vague. It is believed that as the incarnate devils jump they take all their evil with them and the children are cleansed.

Ear Pull Championship



Ear Pull is an unusual sporting event played at the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics. The object is to tests the competitors' ability to endure pain. In the ear pull, two competitors sit facing each other, their legs straddled and interlocked. A two-foot-long loop of string, similar to a thick, waxed dental floss, is looped behind their ears, connecting right ear to right ear, or left to left. The competitors then pull upon the opposing ear using their own ear until the cord comes free or one player quits from the pain. The game has been omitted from some Arctic sports competitions due to safety concerns and the squeamishness of spectators; the event can cause bleeding and competitors sometimes
require stitches.




The World Eskimo-Indian Olympics (or WEIO) is an annual event held over a four-day period in July or August, designed to preserve cultural practices and traditional survival skills essential to life in circumpolar areas of the world. The WEIO features games rooted in ancestral hunting and survival techniques employed by Native Americans, as well as dance and storytelling competitions.

Salon du Chocolat 2010 Paris: The Fashion Show



Salon du Chocolat is one of the most popular chocolate festival in Paris. This 16th annual event has just opened it’s doors to the delight of tens of thousands of chocolate lovers of all ages. Fashion designers in collaboration with chocolatiers have created amazing and delicious costumes, dresses, shoes, hats and other accessories - all made from a variety of different chocolate.

European Beard and Moustache Championships


Germany’s famous East Bavarian Beard Club played host to the European Beard and Moustache Championships high in the Austrian Alps on October 2, 2010. The event drew about 150 participants from eight countries to the town of Leogang, not far from Salzburg, Austria. The competition saw men compete in 17 eccentric categories, including "Freestyle Beard," "Natural Moustache" and "Verdi," with the winner of the latter category bearing a style akin to the famous 19th century Italian composer Giuseppi Verdi.

If you're looking for especially debate-able, I'd go with some religious world event...like the birth of the Messiah, or the supposed prediction of the end of the world with the Mayan calendar.

There is always the World Wars...one event that interests me particularily in that time period was the prevalence of positive eugenics (the killing/sterilizing of the weak) before Nazism. It would be quite easy to find enough info to fill eight pages from that subject for certain. The emergence of it in America is what inspired Nazism, after all.

Spectators Show Off Elaborate Hats At Royal Ascot



The Royal Ascot is one of Europe's most famous race meetings, and dates back to 1711 when it was founded by Queen Anne. Every year Royal Ascot is attended by HM Elizabeth II and various members of the British Royal Family such as The Prince of Wales, with the Royal procession taking place at the start of each race day. The annual five-day racing event has highlighted both British fashion and horseracing since its inception. Top hats and tails remain compulsory in parts of the course. The third day is known as "Ladies' Day" and is the traditional high point for fashion at Ascot.
