Heart disease risk factors
Coronary artery disease, the most common form of cardiovascular disease, is the leading cause of death all across the globe. But thanks to many studies involving thousands of patients, researchers have found certain factors that play an important role in a person's chances of developing heart disease. These are called risk factor.
Risk factors are divided into two categories: major and contributing. Major risk factors are those that have been proven to increase your risk of heart disease. Contributing risk factors are those that doctors think can lead to an increased risk of heart disease, but their exact role has not been defined.
Major risk factors
B High Blood Pressure (Hypertension). Increases your risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke.
■ High Blood Cholesterol. Extra cholesterol enters your body when you eat foods that come from animals (meat, eggs and dairy products).
■ Diabetes. Heart problems are the leading cause of death among people with diabetes, especially in the case of
adult-onset or Type II diabetes. H Obesity and Overweight. Obesity in-creases your chances of developing other risk factors for heart disease, especially high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol and diabetes.
■ Smoking. Increases your risk of heart disease and pe-ripheral vascular disease.
■ Physical In-activity. People who are not active have a greater risk of heart attack.
■ Gender. Overall, men have a higher risk of heart attack than women. But the difference narrows after women reach menopause.
■ Heredity If your parents or siblings had a heart or circulatory problem before age 55, then you are at greater risk for heart disease.
■ Age. Older age is a risk factor for heart disease. Contributing risk factors
■ Stress. Stress is considered a contributing risk factor for heart disease because little is known about its effects.
■ Birth Control Pills. Early types of birth control pills contained high levels of estrogen and progestin and taking these pills increased the chances of heart disease and stroke, especially hi women older than 35 who smoked.
■ Alcohol. Drinking more than a moderate amount of alcohol can cause heart-related problems such as high blood pressure, stroke,
irregular heartbeats and cardiomy-opathy Calories from alcohol often add fat to the body, which may increase the risk if heart disease.

Factors causing heart desease
The risk factors are as follows
Diabetes Mellitus: It is a common disorder and is-seen in about 1/3 cases of Coronary Artery Disease. It is more seen in obese people and people with sedentary habits. By controlling Diabetes, we can reduce the incidence of Heart Attacks and the mortality associated with it. Diabetes is also seen in pediatric and adult patients.
Smoking: It is very common among people and is very important cause of heart problems, lung diseases and cancer. It can cause Heart Attack in young adults, Even it can cause harm to passive smokers (people who are in company of smokers). We
have to educate people about the risks involves in smoking and to quit smoking is very essential.
High Cholesterol: Cholesterol is of two types. Bad Cholesterol known as LDL, Good cholesterol known as HDL. The LDL cholesterol is deposited in arteries supplying blood to heart, brain, kidney and limbs. It also cause Heart Attack among young people. By controlling cholesterol we can reduce the incidence of Heart Attack, stroke and death.
There are lot of mediations to control the Cholesterol.
■ Obesity: Obesity is a curse to the health of individual. High blood pressure, CAD diabetes is common among obese people. Obese people die early. So it is essential to control weight which can be done with the help of diet, walking exercise.
■ Sedentary habit: People with sedentary habits are likely to get Heart Disease
■ Stress: Increased stress leads to various heart ailments
■ Strong family history: People with strong family history of Heart disease are prone to death Heart Attacks
