KOCHI: Depicting the story of the relationship between a son and his mother, versatile young actor Jayasurya's new movie, 'Payyans', is all set to hit the theatres.

Directed by Leo Thadevoos after his notable debut in Pachamarathanalil, the film is produced by Naushad Kammu Vadakkan, under the banner of Kammu Vadakkan Films.

"'Payyans' unfolds the story of Josy, who is stamped a prodigal son. At first he was sent to an engineering college for his studies, but Josy fails in building his career as an engineer. He then tries his hands in business but that too turns unsuccessful," says Leo Thadevoos.

His father John Varghese tries to bring the son's life into a proper way, but mother Padma, always supported her son. "The story mainly revolves around the mother-son relationship. What we are trying to do is to wrap a socially relevant theme in an entertainer," says Leo, who also penned the script for the movie.

Usually most of the parents use to lament that their children are not trying to understand them. "Generation gap is one point that everyone uses to refer to these sort of themes. 'Payyans' also puts forth another question whether parents try to understand their children," Leo said.

Lal and Rohini portray the roles of John Varghese and Padma, respectively. Actor Anjali, who made a mark in South India through Tamil movies, is making a debut in Malayalam through 'Payyans'.

Leo said that 'Payyans' would be a perfect entertainer for the family. "We have tried to narrate the story in a colourful and entertaining setup," he said. The star cast includes Sanker, Sandhya Ramesh, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kalasala Babu, Janardanan, Guinness Pakru and Harisree Martin. Ranjan Abraham is the editor, while Alphonse renders music to Anil Panachooran's lyrics. S G Raman is the cinematographer.

'Payyans' will hit theatres across the state on February 18.
