CHENNAI: World champion Viswanathan Anand of India regained his No 1 ranking in the latest FIDE rating list. Anand’s second place finish in Wijk aan Zee helped him gain 7 points and push Magnus Carlsen to the second spot. Anand also achieved his career best rating (2817), which is the third best after Garry Kasparov’s (2851) and Carlsen’s (2826).

The Norwegian, who had a mixed tournament in Wijk aan Zee, is just two points behind Anand (2815). Levon Aronian (280 and Vladimir Kramnik (2785) remained 3rd and 4th.
