Actress Bhavana regrets the fact that heroines in Indian films are not given significant roles at all. “It’s been loaded heavily in favour of men – the heroes – and we heroinesare most relegated to small or insignificant roles,” says the actress, who debuted in Tamil films with Myshkin’s ‘Chittiram Pesudhadi’ a few years back.

Despite her looks and acting prowess, the talented Bhavana hasn’t done much films in Tamil. ‘Deepavali’, ‘Jeyamkondan’ and ‘Asal’ have been far and few, forcing her to seek solace in other language film industries. She has two films on hand in Malayalam to keep her going as an actress.

Queried as to what was the reason for her long absence from Tamil films, Bhavana says, “I have been getting offers but the characters I’m offered appear to be the same. I want to do a different and powerful role, like the ones regularly played by Hollywood’s Angelina Jolie. Having said so, I’m quite aware that it’s not so easy to get such roles inIndian films.

“Films here are dominated by heroes. I would love to work in at least a single film where my role would be overpowering and controlling the rest of the characters. I would love to continue to act in films till eternity and would surely acting in films even after my marriage,” asserts Bhavana.
