How to Look Good in the Monsoon

Rainy days and windy breezes… sounds like something out of a Yash Raj film. Well, in reality, the monsoons mean soppy, dirty clothes and ruined shoes. But this season doesn’t have to be.Here are some fashion must-dos to keep you at your trendiest even when it’s pouring outside.

    What to wear?

Always keep your hemlines shorter. Think cigarette pants, capris, knee-length skirts and work shorts. Leave your extra-long trousers at home, for now. Choose fabrics carefully. Slightly heavier-weight fabrics that won’t go transparent are your best bet. Experiment with new fabrics; especially nylon-based, good quality pieces that are water resistant. It’s also worth investing in a water-resistant spray that provides a protective coating for clothes.

    The right accessories
Leather, suede or fabric shoes and accessories are strictly off-limits, this season. Opt for shoes made of PU - easy to keep dry and clean. Carry a pair of heels in your handbag, wrapped in plastic, so you can slip them on right before entering a party.

    Tame your hair

Hair always takes a beating with frizz and dampness. Tame your tresses by using a light serum. Wash your hair frequently as any dirt in the hair will pull more grime your way. Similarly, keep hair products light.

    Day & night looks
Heavy traffic and minimal visibility makes it hard to stop home for a change out of work clothes, before you head out. How can you take your wardrobe from night to day? Here are some easy ideas. Play around, find your signature style and get going.

    1. For work: A knee-length dress with a well-cut blazer will keep you dry and warm For play: Remove your blazer, add a statement necklace and change into killer heels.

    2. For work: Slim pants with an over-sized cardigan dries easily and looks office-chic For play: Switch up the pants to a sequined skirt and add a waist belt to cinch in your cardigan.

    3. For work: A brightly-coloured kurta with tan capris are good for casual Fridays, For play: Change into a knit top and shimmery shrug to take you straight to the weekend party scene.

Most importantly, bright colours and sparkles to your clothes and accessories is the perfect antidote to grey weather. Don’t let a downpour dampen your mood this season. It’s easy to look your best!Enjoy the monsoons, it is definitely better than the heat!

    Face makeup tips for Monsoon

Women should use transfer-resistant lipsticks, waterproof cosmetics products like waterproof lip liners, waterproof eyeliners, waterproof foundation for monsoon makeup.

Use only water based cosmetics products for monsoon makeup. The following are the specific tips for monsoon makeup:

Thick makeup can be easily washed out and soiled in rainy season so go for light and sheer makeup

Use face powder in place of foundation to avoid the mess if caught in rain. Don’t use concealer during the monsoon and instead use the foundation. Touch up the dark circles around the eyes with a dab of foundation. Always go for a water-resistant foundation which can survive the rain. Do not apply makeup around the hairline as the hair can become wet in rain and ruin your makeup.

You cannot use eyebrow pencil during the rain so keep your eyebrows up to the mark by threading, plucking, trimming or waxing them.

Use light brush and cream colour blushers as it blend with the skin colour. Cream blushers are not only water-friendly but can be easily dabbed with a tissue in case the face gets wet. You can use shades of browns and peaches.

In monsoon it is best to stay away from creamy and glossy lipsticks. Go for long lasting transfer-resistant lipsticks.
