KEAM : No nod to lower Maths cut off KEAM : No nod to lower Maths cut off

The Kerala Self-Financing Engineering College Management Association (KSFECMA) has failed to convince the government about the necessity to bring down the cut-off mark in plus two Mathematics to 45 percent for engineering admission. When the govt officials who were very cautious about such a move pointed out objections, the association could not resist, it is reliably learnt. The meeting of the association office bearers with Higher Education Principal Secretary K M Abraham, Director of Technical Education Dr J Letha and others was held on Thursday. The officials did not succumb to the arguments of the association for lowering the eligiblity mark of Mathematics to 45 pc.
Principal Secretary had even pointed that this move was not possible in the light of the adverse observation of the Kerala High Court regarding the lowering standards of the engineering education in the state. Moreover he told the association members that the average of the mathematics marks last year and this year showed only a marginal difference of one percent and so no situation has come up this year to lower the cut-off for engineering admission.
The Principal Secretary had said that only 6000 students of the qualified students’ list consisting 77000 students had failed to secure the 50 pc marks in Maths which was not a high number. The KSFECMA office-bearers met the Chief Minister then and it is learnt that he also did not show any leaning towards this demand.
