Thenmala Dam is on the river Kallada and is located 20 km from Punalur on the Thenkasi road (NH 744) in Kollam district of Kerala. The dam water is mainly used for irrigation purpose and there is a small hydel power station too. The hanging bridge across Kallada river gives a good view of the dam. The dam/lake premises is forested and is in Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary.
The small aquarium and the adventure zone (9 am to 5.30 pm on all days) for tourists are near the dam.
The Deer rehabilitation centre (2 km from dam) has a small collection of stranded deers - Spotted deer and the sambar. There is a 800 m long trekking route (simple) at the periphery of the protected area.
Thenmala eco tourism provides entry ticket to various tourist areas - Leisure, adventure zones.
The famous Palaruvi falls (100 m) is 16 km away on the Thenkasi road, accessible by trek.
