Singer-songwriter Fiona Apple might have perfected John Lennon's "Across the Universe," but she apparently has a hard time getting across the American border. According to TMZ, Apple was arrested at a border stop in Sierra Blanca, Texas, for possession of hashish (a purified preparation of the psychoactive drug cannabis — otherwise known as marijuana).

Apple, 35, was apprehended with undisclosed amounts of hashish on her tour bus, and is presently being held at Hudspeth County Jail. Sierra Blanca is a census-designated place in Texas' eastern county of Hudspeth, just north of the Mexican-American border.

The singer/songwriter is currently in the throes of her North American tour for her new album The Idler Wheel, and was set to perform at the Austin City Limits Live music festival, being held at the Moody Theater, on Thursday night.

As a means of voicing their opposition of her arrest, fans of Apple have taken to Twitter to with the "#freefiona" hashtag... a trend that itself has borne a trend of tweets recognizing the humor in using a hashtag to support someone who has been arrested for the possession of hash. These Apple fans are quick... not slow, like honey.
