The list of the Padma Award winners of 2012 was released yesterday,on the eve of Republic Day. Veteran singer S Janaki was on the list too. She has been selected to receive the Padma Bushan award this year. She has already received many prestigious awards,one of which includes the "Kalaimamani" award.

S Janaki has turned down the Padma Bushan award though. She saw the list of awardees and is peeved that the majority of them are North Indians. She said that she was extremely disappointed with the awards going to the North when there were so many talented well deserving people in the South. She has sung over a fifteen thousand songs in both Tamil and Hindi and has won the National Award four times.
