Rajjo Movie Review
Oh-ho Rajjo!!! Wonder what was director Vishwas Patil thinking! Rajjo, starring Kangna Ranaut and newcomer Paras Arora is depressing, loud and pathetic to say the least! With abusive language and scenes that test your patience, Rajjo is one of the most badly made films in recent times! Was Kangna Ranaut desperate for work or was she offered heaps of money...? Not sure what tempted this talented actress to take up a film such as Rajjo!
Whether it be dialogues, acting or screenplay - Rajjo unfortunately has nothing new to offer. Agreed that the script is not novel, but that certainly cannot be an excuse! The plot definitely had scope for innovation, but Vishwas Patil chose to follow the most tried and tested path. Few of the dialogues make you wonder whether you are supposed to laugh out loud or tear your hair in despair!
For instance, when Rajjo (Kangna Ranaut) walks with a matka on her head, dressed in a small 'little' blouse and a skirt showing off most of her body, Chandu (Paras Arora) asks her, "Itni laal lipstick lagake iss jungle mein kyon ghoom rahi ho (Why are you roaming around in a jungle wearing red lipstick)?" Well, that was funny as well as a sensible question...probably the only intelligent dialogue in the entire film! Later, when his parents ask him for an explanation after he brings home his wife Rajjo, Chandu replies, "Apne pairon pe khade hone ki koshish kar raha hoon (I am trying to be responsible and on my own).
" Are we supposed to laugh here, because talks about responsibility from a 21-year-old jobless and homeless youngster is the most ridiculous thing we can think about! If after all this, you still want to know the story, here it is...
Story
The film starts as a flashback. It begins with the entry of Hande Sahab (Prakash Raj) who is a gangster and wants Rajjo (Kangna Ranaut) at any cost, and thus approaches Begum (Mahesh Manjrekar). He finds out that Rajjo has already eloped with a 21-year-old boy and then we are taken back to the time when the two first meet. Rajjo's older sister sells her to a kotha or brothel in order to make some money to buy a flat in a huge setup.
Chandu (Paras Arora) is a 21-year-old student of Viva College in Virar, Mumbai. After winning a cricket match, he and his friends head to Grant Road (Mumbai) to celebrate his cricket team's victory. This is where the young Chandu meets Rajjo, who is six years his senior and falls head over heels in love. Rajjo too thinks that he is her prince charming and falls for him. The rest of the story revolves around the various problems that the couple face.
Performances
Kangna Ranaut can do far better than this! Remember her performance as Shonali Gujral in Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion? Paras Arora from no angle looks 21! He doesn't look more than 16. To be fair, Paras has got the talent, but must stop imitating few of the mega stars of his liking. Mahesh Manjrekar, Prakash Raj and Dilip Tahil were the saving grace of the film.
Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing
Rajjo is boring, unconvincing and seems like a lot of figments patched up together to bring out a haphazard product!
Verdict
Missing your headaches for a long time? Then go and watch Rajjo!
