Perhaps a little more detail would be helpful. With proper maintenance, you can make just about any computer far better than you initially thought it was.

This is true, but you can only upgrade a computer for so long before the motherboard and processor become obsolete. I had an AMD K6 475 mHz machine until November of 2001, and it just couldn't keep up regardless of the upgrades I made on it, so I switched to this nice AMD XP 2000 (runs at 1.82 gHz) Of course I run Windows 2000 professional, but that still is in style.

well it's not that, your motherboard can only use certian Processors anyways, it's not like you can take a 1 gHz Celeron and replace it with a 2.5 Ghz Processor; the motherboard was simply not made to handle it. My rule of thumb is if the schools computers are better than what I have, It's time to upgrade.

well that or if I can get a good deal on a new computer, but that's a different story.

Exactly my point, except that the general size of the proccessor doesn't change very much, maybe by only a half a millimeter or so, but not noticibly different. (disregarding laptop CPU's, they are a totally different type of processors all together.)

Do you really think the original poster was looking for help as to how to upgrade his/her computer?
