    Default death penalty

I oppose it on many grounds.

    the first is pragmatic.

the death penalty does not deter crime. It's only value is in getting people to confess to lesser sentencing, and death should not be a threat but a judgement.

if the death penalty worked, then texas and especially harris county would have less violent crime, because texas has more death penalties carried out each year then all other states combined. and harris county (houston) has the most in the state. their violent crime rates are normal.

for the death penalty to really deter, we would have to be like china, who executes like crazy. but in doing so, they murder the falsely accused.

the death penalty is racist. a black man convicted of a duplicate crime a white man commits is much more likely to be sentenced to death.

    most right wingers are christians.

if a murderer is not a christian, and you put him to death before he can convert, then you are shortchanging him and he goes to hell.

if a murderer has become or is a christian, then I guess you could, but would you want to put a "brother" to death?

it is not a deterrent. it is expensive to house and maintain.

    i say no.

    Default Death Penalty

The death penalty, IMO, in some cases seems to be best (gruesome as it is) penalty for committing fatal crimes in the community. It's a good system as to how it will deter others from committing the same crime.

Pointless executions for reading something your not supposed to/being where your not supposed to/having opinions not supported by the government is ridiculous.

i think death penalty can exist because in people who takes othermen lives (if you kill many people ) then you arent worth to live, but in many casses ther is a alternative it must be only sentenced if that person is a stubborn bad, like rascist,

 why are ther somany bad people out there :?:

well, i think having a death penalty ensures that people know that they can take crime too far and there's a point where they can, not only lose their freedom, but also their life.

people, however, who do not value their life probably won't be as effected by that deterrent though and those are the ones most likely to engage in crime to that degree. so it's a catch-22 really

I am on the fence about the death penalty. My problem with it is where God comes into it. I'm a christian and I am not sure about what the proper view would be. Personally, though, I don't think it should be implemented because murder is murder is murder.

The death penalty is a hard stance imo, think about this: "Why do we kill people to show that killing people is wrong?" Im not saying I am against the Death penalty, there are some people that you personally may think should be put to death, but as Kelticpete said it doesn't really stop people from commiting crimes.
