I have had some experience with 3D imagery, and I can tell you that it was extremely useful.

I was shopping for a new mobile phone and several of the sites had 3D images that you could click and rotate to see the phones from different angles, and also open/closed for the flip/slide phones.

I can see the use of 3D images being used more and more on commercial websites. I like to have a good look at the products that I am buying, and if I can't physically do that, I can at least get a very good idea with these images.
