User's account wont activate

I'm a mod on my forum and a user's account was created and they were sent an activation email and I changed the settings for the account so they can see the hidden forums but they can't seem to log in, as if the account was never activated.

So how do I fix this or delete the account and recreate it?

Tell the user to click the "Forgot Password" link just below the log in, they will receive an email, they will need to follow the link in the email and create a new password.
