What is the best? (Xampp, wamp and so on...)

I am going to start scripting in php and i want to know what is the best/esiest program to have?

I've heard of Lampp/Xampp, wamp and so on but dont really know the difference between them. I have tried xampp and got that running but all of a sudden it stopped working and i dont know why.

And i would apreciate comments like why its better than the other off course.

Could you please let us know the operating system you are using.
Incase you are using Windows, go for WAMP.

XAMPP is window-based while LAMP is based in Linux... security wise, LAMP is more okay than XAMPP. I have used both, but i preferred LAMP because it is more stable.
