Bus 21 G from Parrys takes one to Ashir Khana after the flyover. From there, St Thomas Mount was at walkable distance. The bleeding stone cross and the fine view of the Chennai International Aiprport, aeroplane landing and the aerial view of the city were the main attractions.

St. Mary’s CSI Church, popularly known as the English Church is located at Nadakkavu in Kozhikode (Calicut) district, Kerala. This church has been built by the British in 1860 to meet the spiritual needs of British Christian members of the collectorate and the English military. The church has been renovated several times and one can also find a tomb dated 1717.

Pattambi ia a major town in Palakkad district of Kerala. It is situated on the banks of River Bharathappuzha (Nila) river. The Pattambi bridge over Nila is an important bridge as Pattambi is at the road junction of three districts - Thrissur, Malappuram and Palakkad. Pattambi is a railway station on the Shornur junction - Kozhikode/Mangalore route.

Pattambi Nercha festival : Between 70 to 80 elephants are lined up for the festival which is held in memory of Aloor Valiya Pookunj Koya Thangal, a Muslim saint of South Malabar.

I was on a Kanyakumari travel. The 87 km (2.5 hour of bus travel) long road route is Thiruvananthapuram - Neyyatinkara - Amaravila (Check post) - Parasala - Kaliyikkavila (TN) - Marthandam - Tuckalay - Nagercoil - Suchindram - Kottaram - Kanyakumari.

Tiraparappu falls is near Marthandam.

Kanyakumari has got rail connection too.

Padmanabhapuram palace is 3 km from Tuckalay bus station in Tamil Nadu. Auto rickshaws are available from bus station (Rs 30). Tuckalay is 20 km from Nagercoil. Udayagiri fort is located 2 km from the Padmanabhapuram palace. The Palace in under Kerala Archaelogical department.

Padmanabhapuram palace is closed on Mondays and other National holidays. Entry fee Rs 25 (Rs 10 for children), Still Camera Rs 25, Video camera Rs 1500.

Timing : 9 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4.30 pm.

Suchindram Thanumalayan temple

The 6 m musical pillars carved out of single stone ( 7 musical pillars in the Alangara Mandapam), which emit the sounds of various musical instruments when struck.

There are 1035 pillars with carvings in the dancing hall. The 3 m high single granite block Hanuman statue and seven-storey pyramidal gopuram are the main attraction. Car festival is in April and December.





The temple is 13 km from Nagercoil on the Kanyakumari road.

After the Suchindram temple visit, I travelled by bus to Kanyakumari. The main tourist spots of the town were Govt Museum, Gandhi memorial, Aqua world fish exhibition, shops selling a variety of sea shells at the Kanyakumari beach, Kumari Devi temple and the great view of Swami Vivekanada rock memorial and Thiruvalluvar memorial on a rocky island 400 m away from sea shore at the confluence of Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay Of Bengal.

Gandhi memorial

Mohanlal Karamchand Gandhi was the ambassador of Indian struggle for independence and is considered the father of the nation.
The ashes, before being disposed off, were kept at the spot where the present Gandhi Memorial stands. It was built in typical temples of Orissa style in 1956. Timing : 7 am to 7 pm. Admission free. Ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were kept before immersion on 12 Feb 1948.

Aqua world fish exhibition : Entry Rs 10. Having a variety of sea and fresh water fishes.

Shops selling a variety of sea shells are the main attraction other than the Vivekananda rock memorial and Thiruvalluvar statie at the Kanyakumari beach.

Swami Vivekanada meditasted on this rock on 25,26,& 27 Dec 1892. Fine view of Kanyakumari town and the wind mill farm (30 km away).

Thiruvalluvar memorial

Thiruvalluvar memorial is located in an island close to Swami Vivekananda rock memorial. The 40.5 m high statue of saint Thiruvalluvar, the author of Thirukkural, was opened on 1 Jan 2000. The 29 m statue (7000 ton) stands on a pedestal of 11.5 m high. It is at Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu state of India.
