Income Tax rates in India

Total annual Income :
Upto Rs. 1.1 lakh (For women Rs. 1.45 lakh) - No tax.
>1.1 lakh & < 1.5 lakh : 10 % of the amount exceeding Rs 1.1 lakh.
>1.5 lakh & < 2.5 lakh : Rs 5000 + 20 % of the amount exceeding Rs 1.5 lakh.
>2.5 lakh : Rs 25000 + 30 % of the amount exceeding Rs 1.5 lakh.

One can deposit in Provident fund, Life Insurance Policies, National Savings Certificates in Post Offices, exemption for housing loans taken (for the amount paid) etc. For the above deposits up to Rs 1 lakh one get exemption from Income tax.

That is if one having an annual income (Income from all sources - Salary, interest on bank deposits, income from land, agriculture, business etc.) of Rs 2 lakh and if he invests Rs 1 lakh in the PF/LIC/NSC etc. to pay no tax.

India's only aircraft carrier INS Viraat has a length of 226.9 m, width of 48.8 m and a height of 8.7 m. The load capacity of the carrier is 24 to 28 kilotons, a speed of 28 knots, a complement of 1350 (143 officers), can carry 30 Sea Harrier aircrafts (fighters) - normally 12, 7 Seaking helicopters. It was comissioned in 1987 in Indian Navy and has a sky jump of 12 degree.

Siachen glacier (Ladakh, India) : World's highest battle field. Indian army is stationed there since 1984. The height of the glacier - Satoro bridge - ranges upto 6700 m. Indian army spents more than $1million annually to maintain the post.

The northern most part of India is Indira col, Siachen. Most of the soldiers die due to the extreme low temperature. Leh is the nearest town, while Panamik is the roadhead for the glacier. The Leh - Panamik road climbs via Khardung la (5600 m - World's highest motorable road). From Panamik the glacier is 3 - 4 days trek (Permit from Defence minstry is required due to the proximity with Pakistan border).
