it is no true. Windows XP will not eat you bandwidth. they just limit no of connection for anti-virus.

Windows 98, Me, 2000 and XP without install sp3 no such problem.

    Default the good way

    ENGLISH(bad english)
the only way to get back your 20% of bandwith that windows steal to your connection is to install an other OS like linux or unix.
But if you wouldnt start to learn of a new OS you can install the only full functional alternative windows operating system : WINDOWS LSD III

    Francais:

    voila, Thats all[/code]

Default it's not 20% and it's not all the time!

    Hey all.

I know about this tweak for a long time, and you really want to change it only if you have an illeagal copy of Windows...
Anyways, it's not 20% and it's not all the time, it's only when your system needs it in case some fatal error occurs, or some program had been shut not properly and you wish to send microsot a report and things like that. For Updtats it uses all of your bandwidth because it's just like a normal download!
You don't believe me? You want to check it for yourselves?
Then you can actually put this to test with your ISP.
Most ISPs have homepages with download speeds in them. To your ISP you should get your maximum connection speed unless they have a really fu&^ed up speed test....lolz :D
Shut down all other programs, all other IE or other browesers and really everything that is using your bandwidth and test yourselves, if you get your maximum download speed or something very very close to it you can see that windows does not take that bandwidth...
If you get something a lot lower than your speed than you have a connection error and you must contact your ISP to fix it.
If, in the rare case that I'm wrong (I'm never wrong peole... :D ) you get 18-22% less than your actual maximum connection speed than try again, if again the same result is coming up, contact your ISP to fix this and if they can't then tweak your windows and see what happens.
Windows is not actually using 20% off of your bandwidth - believe me people when I say that I have checked this situation and it's nothing.
If you have a leagal copy of windows just call the nearest support centre and ask them about this very thing, see what they're answer is.

Just trying to help confused mob, Me!
