Gautham Menon Profile,Biogrphy,Movies
Name: Gautham Menon
Sex: Male
Date of Birth: 25 Feb 1973
Place of Birth: Ottapalam, Palakkad District, Kerala
ABOUT GAUTHAM MENON:
Gautham Vasudev Menon is an Indian film director and producer in Tamil Nadu, India. Many of his films have been critically acclaimed, most notably his action-thrillers Kaaka Kaaka, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu and Vaaranam Aayiram.
Education
Gautham Menon was born to Keralite father and Tamil mother. He did Mechanical Engineering in Mookambikai College of Engineering in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.
Film career
He was an ad film maker, shooting various commercials after a good apprenticeship under noted filmmaker Rajiv Menon. He worked as an assistant director for Minsaara Kanavu. He also played a cameo role in the film. He started his own ad agency "Photon Factory" before moving to cinema which is now recognized as a film production company.
His first film was Minnale in Tamil with R. Madhavan, Abbas and Reema Sen playing the lead roles. The film was a huge hit because of its young and peppy story, brilliant comic timing from the acclaimed comedian Vivek and also because of some new lilting music from debutante music director, Harris Jeyaraj.
Gautham immediately received the chance to remake the film in Bollywood. He did so, retaining Madhavan as in the lead role, this time having Diya Mirza playing the female lead role. Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein however did not have much success in the Hindi film industry.
Gautham returned to Tamil cinema in 2003 with Kaaka Kaaka, starring Surya Sivakumar, Jyothika Saravanan and Jeevan. Gautham, himself, appeared in a cameo role as a senior police officer. With R. D. Rajashekar on the camera, Anthony in editing and again with Harris Jeyaraj handling the music, the film was a box-office record breaker.
Gautham again got offers from various quarters to remake the film. This time he remade the film in Telugu with
Venkatesh in the lead. But the facts reveal that some of the scenes were as is replicated from the English movie Se7en.
After that, Gautham had the opportunity to make another action/adventure thriller film with Kamal Hassan in a pivotal role. Thus, he started Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu. The unit faced a lot of problems due to the producer's suicide attempt[1]. However they overcame all that and the film was released in August 2006. The director plays a cameo dancing at the back in the song, Manjal Veiyil. The film came to be the biggest grosser of 2006.
Gautham's Pachaikili Muthucharam with Sarath Kumar and Jyothika Saravanan in 2007 was a critical acclaim but bombed at the box office. His next release, Vaaranam Aayiram with Surya Sivakumar, Simran Bagga, Sameera Reddy and Divya got released on November 14, 2
008.It is claimed as biggest hit of 2008. It has received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for 2008.
His next directorial ventures will be Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikalam with Trisha, Satish along with newcomers, and Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya again with Trisha along with Silambarasan.
Gautham's response to Harris Split "The decision not to work together was not mine.Hope everyone got that".
Following the commence Ajith Kumar’s Aegan in late December 2007, reports indicated that Ajith Kumar will act in a film produced by Sivaji Productions directed by Gautham Menon. later it was Dropped.
And now producer Dhayanidhi Alagiri of Cloud nine Productions who before produced Vaaranam Aayiram, for Gautham informed that Ajith's 50th film will be direct by Gautham menon.

Director Ranjith
Ranjith
Kunithala Ranjith, often credited simply as Ranjith, is a popular Indian screen writer and film director in Malayalam cinema[1]. Ranjith's entry into films was accidental. Alex Kadavil, late theatre director and film producer, Ranjith’s close friend and classmate at the School of Drama, Thrissur instilled cinema into him. After his graduation from School of Drama, he and a group of juniors, produced a film, `Oru Maymasa Pulariyil', which was written by him and directed by V.R. Gopinath.
He entered the major league with Devasuram directed by IV Sasi. After writing successful masala potboilers such as Aaram Thamburan, Narashimham and Valyettan, he turned director with Ravanaprabhu, the sequel to Devasuram, in 2001. His other films include Nandanam, Mizhi Randilum, Black, Kaiyoppu, and Thirakkatha. In 2008, he acted the lead role in Jayaraj's Gulmohar[2]. He also had done the central character in Edward Bond’s ‘The Bundle,’ translated into Malayalam by Vayala Vasudevan Pillai, and directed by Alaknanda Samarth, a theatre director from London. He had also worked as an actor when one of his seniors Ramesh, directed Henrik Ibsen’s ‘Ghost.’ V.K. Prakash also made him act in one his advertisements.

Priyadarshan
Priyadarshan is a popular film director from Kerala, India. He has directed numerous popular hit movies in Malayalam in the 1980s and 1990s. In Bollywood, he is known for making remakes of Malayalam films, not always his own, and seldom with attribution. Some of his earlier malayalam movies such as Thalavattom(copied from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (film) and Boeing Boeing(copied from Boeing Boeing (1965 film) were similarly copied from Hollywood.Priyadarshan hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala where his father Mr.Nair worked a librarian at the University of Kerala. It was here that he got the opportunity to read literary works of famous writers. His fascination for comics and fairy tales reflects in his movies. As a child, Priyadarshan aspired to be a cricketer. However his hopes of a career in cricket were cut short following an injury to his left eye by a cricket ball. He would later wear dark glasses when appearing in public. Priyadarshan met his wife, Malayalam actress Lizzy (Parvathi), on the sets of his second film. They have worked together in twelve movies. He has two children, daughter Kalyani and son Sidharth. Actor Mohanlal is one of Priyadarshan's closest friends.
Around the same period many of his friends from Thiruvananthapuram joined the film industry including actor Mohanlal, singer M. G. Sreekumar, producer Suresh Kumar are few among them. Priyadarshan is said to have ventured into films by chance. His first movie Poochakkoru Mookkuthi in Malayalam was a block buster. His success is generally attributed to the new outlook, particularly slaptstick comedy which is extensively used in his films. Mohanlal has played the lead character in some of his most successful films. Their best work till date has been considered to be Chithram (Malayalam, 1987). Another movie [[Kilukkam]] was one of the biggest hits in the history of Malayalam cinema.
Apart from Malayalam films Priyadarshan has also directed Hindi, Tamil and Telugu movies. His foray into Bollywood was with the movie Muskurahat (1993) remake of malayalam film Kilukkam. This was a failure at the box office and it went largely unnoticed. His first successful Hindi film was Gardish, a remake of the malayalam film [[Kireedam]] (1989).He made his second foray into Hindi films with the remake of the acclaimed Kamal Haasan starrer Thevar Magan (Tamil) in Hindi. The film was titled Virasat and was made with the help of writer Vinay Shukla. The success of the film established Priyadarshan as a sought after director in Bollywood along with the cast and crew of the film including Tabu, Ravi K Chandran (cinemotography) and Anu Malik (music).
He later came up with a string of remakes including Hera Pheri (2000) ( remake of "Ramji Rao Speaking"), Hungama (2003) (remake of Poochakkoru Mookkuthi), Hulchul (2004) (remake of Godfather), Garam Masala (2005) (remake of Boeing Boeing) and Chup Chup Ke (2006) (remake of Punjabi House).Priyadarshans movies are noted for their rich exotic visuals, songs and slapstick humour. He often works with the technical team comprising of N. Gopalakrishnan (editor), S. Kumar (cinemotography) and Sabu Cyril (art director).
Some of the remakes of Priyadarshan however failed to achieve boxoffice success. These include Muskurahat, Kabhi Na Kabhi (1997) (not a remake), Doli Sajake Rakhna (199 (remake of Aniyathipravu), Yeh Tera Ghar Ye Mera Ghar (2002), (remake of Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam)and Kyonki (2005)(remake of Thaalavattom).
Several critics have pointed out that Priyadarsan relies on plagiarism from other films, particularly critically or commercially successful Hollywood productions. For instance, Thalavattam is heavily based on the Oscar winning One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Other notable instances include Kakkakuyil (A Fish Called Wanda), Malamaal Weekly (Waking Ned), Garam Masala (Boeing Boeing). His Hindi films are mostly remakes of older Malayalam movies, usually of a different director and screenwriter.
The original directors and screenwriters are either not acknowledged in the Hindi version, or are acknowledged simply under 'Story'. For instances Hulchal was originally written and directed by Siddique-Lal who was not credited as the screenwriter inspite of it being an exact copy (with dialogues translated to Hindi). Soon after the release of Bhool Bhulaiyya, in an interview with Rediff.com, the original screenwriter Madhu Muttam claimed that he was not consulted with and the original director, Fazil (also Priyadarshan's mentor) refused to comment on the film. When asked about plagiarism accusations, Priyadarshan told The Hindu that "Today, 99% of the films are copied" . It is also a generally held opinion that Priyadarshan's remakes are far inferior in quality to the originals.
