There is a huge coal mine set being recreated for the next schedule of YRF's 'Gunday' - the first of its kind. The last YRF film shot in a coal mine was Yash Chopra's 'Kaala Patthar' in 1979 which had a Hollywood team specially flown in to be on board to supervise the technicality of shooting this on location.

For 'Gunday', what proved invaluable were the discussions between late Mr Yash Chopra and the director of the film Ali Abbas Zafar before the start of the film in August 2012. Yash ji shared all his experiences of shooting the coal mine sequences of 'Kala Patthar' with Ali, which later became the guideline for the set construction for Gunday. So in a way, it's a small ode, which the 'Gunday' team would like to pay Yash Chopra in their own special cinematic way.

On their part, the creative team of 'Gunday', namely Production Designer Rajat Poddar, Director Ali Abbas Zafar and Director of Photography Aseem Mishra went through an extensive period of research to make it possible. Recces were conducted through the many coal fields of India, from Singhrauli mines in UP & MP to Raniganj belt in West Bengal to get the details right for this set.

The set will see the high-octane action pair of Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor along with Irrfan Khan and leading lady Priyanka Chopra. The action begins this July at YRF Studios.
