Kerala's IT@School Project to train Parents
Kerala's IT@School Project will now include parents of students and introduce them to information communication technology, as part of a 100-day state government programme starting in all high schools Aug 20.
KIT@School executive director Anvar Sadath said that a day-long ICT awareness session would be conducted first to give parents a broad idea of what this the programme is all about.
"Through this programme, it is intended to educate parents on the ICT tools being used in schools in the state, besides making them ICT literate," said Sadath.
Education Minister P.K.Abdurab will inaugurate the programme Aug 20 in Malappuram District. The parental awareness part concludes by Sep 13. Schools have also been instructed to submit reports of the programme online.
For parents keen to learn more, a detailed training module has been developed, comprising usage of operating systems, word processing, using computers in Malayalam, and internet.
"With the acquisition of these skills, parents will be equipped with a functional knowledge of day-to-day IT activities like working of storage devices, CD-writing, emails, Malayalam typing and cyber security," Sadath said.
A special documentary on the parental awareness programme will be telecast in IT@School ViCTERS channel at 4 p.m. Aug 19 and 20.
