Harbhajan Singh in the mix for Australia series
Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh may have ceased to be a regular member of the Indian teams in various formats but a good performance in the Ranji Trophy semifinal, and final if Punjab make it, can bring him back into Test team reckoning.
India will be playing Australia in a four-Test series starting February 22 and Harbhajan has a great record against the Aussies. India, struggling for form in all formats of the game, will be well served if Harbhajan can regain his prime form and start taking wickets again.
The selectors are keeping Harbhajan in the loop since the present first-choice off-spinner, R Ashwin has not really delivered with the ball against England in the recent Test series.
According to sources, the veteran offie has been told by people who matter that if he can prove his form and fitness while leading Punjab in the semifinal against Saurashtra, he would be back in contention.
"It's been communicated to Harbhajan that he gets among the wickets in the remaining Ranji matches, he would be one a serious contenders for one of the spinner's slot," a source close to the development told TOI.
Ashwin has been a better performer with the bat then the ball and India need wicket-takers to win Tests against top sides. Harbhajan will come handy if he gets some form back.
