There has been a reduction of 1,300 MBBS seats this year after the Medical Council of India did not give renewal permission to 12 medical colleges having as many undergraduate medical seats.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha yesterday, Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad said during the academic year 2012-13, 11 post-graduate seats under the all-India quota at Safdarjung Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here were surrendered by selected candidates. To another question on the irregularities in medical entrance examinations, the Minister said the information is being collected and will be tabled later.
