With the world's largest Consumer Electronics Show (CES) set to kick off early next week, here are our top predictions for the show -

Laser TVs & Ultra HD TVs:
Last year, the talk of the show was the 4k and OLED TVs. But considering the high cost involved in OLED TVs, all the players are shifting their focus back to 4K or Ultra HD (UHD) TVs. Taking on the challenge faced by large Full HD TVs (the outline of the pixels get visible when one comes too close to the TV), the 4k at 3840 x 2160 resolution has four times the number of pixels than full HD. Now, 4K TVs are available from big manufacturers but are priced exorbitantly. There is also the challenge of getting 4k content. In 2013, we expect to see the UHD LED LCD TV become affordable. Apart for UHD TVs, LG is showcasing its Laser TV at the show. The ultra shot throw laser projector is capable of creating 100 inch screen from a distance of 22 inches.

WiGig
Post 802.11ac, that was developed to offer reliable connections and improved range for data transfer, WiGig will be the new Wireless technology everyone will be talking about. Also known as Wireless Gigabit, this technology is designed for faster communication and transmission of data. In simple terms, this wireless standard promises to be fast enough to allow full HD Video streaming from video sharing sites or play online games at very high speeds. This technology operates on 60GHz band and is 10 times faster than 802.11n and supports data transmission rates up to 7Gbps. There are some new wireless technologies expected to be showcased at CES 2013.

Connected Cars
In association with Gadgets & Gizmos
With Audi, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia and Subaru participating in CES 2013, this is one segment where we can expect some action. The cars will now be able to connect with the phone, provide live traffic information , play media, etc. Toyota's 2013 Avalon Limited will have Qi wireless charging for mobile devices. Of late, this technology has been used for the Nokia Lumia 920 and a few other devices. The company is also working on new hand motion technology that will allow drivers to control certain car functions, such as turning up the radio volume. Android is also likely to make it into the in-car systems.

Smartphones
There isn't much that we can say at the moment, but all the big players like Nokia, Samsung, Sony , etc. will be present at the event. Sony is also expected to launch a couple of new smartphones - Xperia Z (Odin) and Xperia ZL (Yuga). Engadget reports that ZTE will be announcing Grand S, a 5 inch HD device while Huawei will introduce its first Windows Phone 8 device.

Gesture Control
Companies have been working on this for a while now as they have been trying to look at more intuitive ways for users to interact with their gadgets. Eye Sight and voice control technology is something that might just take on the remote control in the coming years.
