Many of the IIMs have awarded additional points for candidates from non-engineering backgrounds and for women to ensure diversity in the classroom.

"It's heartening to note that the IIMs are ushering in the New Year with a talent pool that is both diverse and inclusive representing all sections of the society. The CAT 2012 results indicate that the rhetoric of inclusion indeed matches the reality inside IIM classrooms. We are glad that we started the trend of greater gender diversity inside IIMs. We trust that the classroom learning will be an enriching experience for those who finally find their way to the IIMs this year," said Debashis Chatterjee, director, IIM Kozhikode.
