If I were you I would take a digital multimedia class that includes Flash animation in the syllabus. I am learning flash and am using this site to upload my files. I think the best way to learn flash is in a classroom. But if you wanna learn on your own, you can read such great books like Flash 8 professional or Flash on Demand!!

Learning flash will take some time.

When I tried to learn flash, I downloaded few ebooks and went through those ebooks. Sometimes Its quite boring to go through such large number of pages! Learning in any institution would be a good idea :P
