The National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW), has invited online applications for the national-level Common Entrance Test (NIMCET- 2013) to be held on May 26 (Sunday) for admission to Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme offered by the 11 NITs in Kozhikode, Tiruchirappalli, Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, and Warangal. NITs are centrally funded technical institutions of national importance. Admission is open for the academic year 2013-14, which will be based on the rank obtained in NIMCET- 2013. The two-hour test will have 120 objective-type questions from Mathematics; Analytical ability and Logical Reasoning; Computer Awareness; and General English. Each correct answer will carry four marks and each wrong answer leads to one negative mark.

Those with a degree in any one of the subjects such as Mathematics, Statistics, Business Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Statistics, Computational Mathematics, Elementary Mathematics, or Statistics with at least 60 per cent marks can appear for NIMCET-2013. The applicants should have passed the Plus-Two examination with at least 60 per cent marks in Mathematics.

The curricula and syllabi of the three-year regular MCA programmes are designed considering the need of information technology firms in India and abroad. The application fee is Rs.1,600 for open and Other backward Classes category and Rs.800 for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes categories.

The candidates are required to fill in the online application form available on the web site nimcet2013.nitw.ac.in and to forward a hard copy along with processing fee in the form of a demand draft drawn in favour of NIMCET-2013 on any nationalised bank branch and relevant documents to the Secretary, NIMCET-2013, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal-506004 (AP) so as to reach the institution on or before April 16 by registered post.

BS at IISc

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has invited online applications for admission to the four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) programme which is designed as a balanced blend of core science and interdisciplinary topics.

Those who have completed or are expecting to complete their Plus Two or equivalent examination in 2013 may apply. The applicants should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects and secured first class or 60 per cent marks/equivalent grade in Plus Two/equivalent examination. Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes require pass mark. Selection is based on the score obtained in the KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) examination or joint entrance examination (JEE )Main 2013 or IIT-JEE Advanced, or NEET-UG 2013.

The application fee of Rs.400 (Rs.200 for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes categories and physically challenged canddates) can be paid online. The online application may be prepared and submitted by accessing the IISc website — 4 year Undergraduate programme. Last date for submission of the applications is April 30.
