Whats with this new Google desktop

Whats with this new google desktop do you guys think it sends your personel info to the net or sumthing ?

It's not supposed to. It's more like being able to search your computer as if you were searching through an FTP server, accept that only you can access it... And anyway if it were to give information out, there isn't much that it could, and depending on the scripting, would probably be blocked by your firewall, if you have one...

But most of this is generalizations, I haven't actually tried the service or anything, at least I haven't tried it yet.

a sort of warning, it takes a VERY long time to index your computer, especially if you have large HDD's...

Google is taking control of our desktop and how we use our MS Windows computers. Anyway it seems a great new software. Any one tryed this ?

I am very happy with google desktop. It has saved me hours of searching on my computer @ work. I have piles of electronic documents, emails, etc. Google desktop indexes them all and then when you search (in a web browser, o course) it presents the results like a typical google search.

Hi.

http://desktop.google.com is where you can download Google desktop. It is a quick download (about 400k), and installs pretty quickly.

After installation, the indexer gets going and runs when your computer is idle.

You can use the desktop search right after installation, but you won't get much. Let it run overnight, and you will find a lot more stuff indexed.

it's practically just something to look through your files/ search for them.
