Default Boss : Review - Akshay Kumar

Khiladi actor Akshay Kumar , Aditi Rao Hydari starrer Boss released in record screens.

"Boss" is as much fun to watch as it must have been to shoot. Almost every sequence is an 'item'. And for once the word 'item' is not a gaali.

Sonakshi Sinha looking like a full-on heroine, shows up twice, once jiving to a zingy Yo Ho Honey Singh number and finally at the end to pay Sridevi an unexpected compliment.

This is a fast-paced, zany, full-on masala fare. There is a tempting swagger to Akshay's performance matched by the narration's tidal tempo. Irresistible energy and endearing gusto underline the show's voracious appetite for a comic kill.

    Ekdum fit hai, Boss!

‘In a film only three things matter - Entertainment entertainment and entertainment'. Do you recall this famous Vidya Balan dialogue from the 2011 movie The Dirty Picture? The newly released Boss which stars Akshay Kumar in the title role solely aims at this ‘entertainment factor'. This Bollywood masala film is high on action and comedy but we see that director Anthony D'Souza is trying a little too hard in this flick. This action-comedy combo does not seem to leave the crowds clapping away.

Boss, which is a remake of a Malayalam movie titled Pokkiri Raja has all the elements of a masala entertainer- there is drama, dishum dishum (action), dance, droll and dialogue delivery but may not leave you too pleased. Somehow, everything in the film seems very clichéd but may leave Akshay Kumar fans whistling away for his punch lines.

    Story

Boss revolves around a relationship between a father (Satyakant Shastri played by Mithun Chakraborty) and son (Boss played by Akshay Kumar). Boss does not share good relationship with his father and instead he is the right hand of a local don named Big Boss. It's from him that he even gets the name of Boss. Akshay plays a kind-hearted rogue king in the film. Akshay's younger brother Shiv (played by Shiv Pandit) also comes into the picture ash he is In love with Ankita(Aditi Rao Hydari). Shiv is even dragged into a controversy due to Ayushman Thakur (Ronit Roy), who is the villainous cop in the movie. The twisted tale is that the cop is also the brother of none other than Shiv's lady lover Ankita. The rest of the plot is left for Boss to deal with this issue.

    Performances

Although Akshay does his part of the job just fine, there is nothing new that we see here. It's like the same old Akshay Kumar in just different costumes and avatars. His dialogues and punch lines are just getting aren't exciting any more. He has done his bit; it's probably filmmakers that need start giving him versatile roles.

    Verdict

Boss is a typical masala flick with clichés and we mostly see what we expected; nothing fresh. There won't be many surprises in the film. The point is most masala entertainers tend to be this way. You may find yourself laughing a little at a few silly one-liners and so on but there is nothing new to lookout in the film.
