Default Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) What it is ?

Urinary Tract Infection is mainly an bacterial infection (E coli) that affects the urinary tract. Urinary tract infections occur more commonly in women than men due to the short length of urethra. Recurrences are common.

When it affects the lower urinary tract, it is called bladder infection.
If it affects the upper urinary tract, it is called kidney infection.

The Kidneys are a bean shaped, fist size organ whose task is to filter blood and remove the waste. There are two kidneys - one on each side of the abdomen. They make urine which drains down the ureters into the bladder. Urine is stored in the bladder and is passed out through the urethra from time to time when we go to the toilet.

Symptoms : Painful urination and either frequent urination or urge to urinate. Pain in the public bone or at the lower back.
In case of kidney infection fever, nausea, vomiting and flank pain will be in addition.

Prevention : Personal hygiene methods used after urinating or whether a person typically bathes or showers, Urinating immediately after intercourse, the type of underwear used.

Diagnosis : Based on symptoms. Urine test for detecting pus cells (Albumin, Sugar, WBC, RBC, Cast, Crystals, Epithelial cells, Bile salts etc). In complicated cases, urine culture is done.

Treatment : With low dose of antibiotics (
Norfloxacin & Lactic Acid Bacillus tablets). Symptoms improve within in 36 hours.
