WATER SPORTS IN KUMARAKOM

CULTURAL TOUR

Be ready for an escorted evening trip to the traditional cultural sites, which includes visit to the Shiva Temple of Ettumanoor. It is famous for its mural paintings and elaborate carvings, and the martial art center Kalarippayattu, where the exponents will give a demonstration of this ancient martial art form.

COIR FACTORY VISITS

Allappuzha is the hub of Kerala's coir industry. The factories in this region still practice the traditional method of extracting coir fiber from coconut husks. There are several factories manufacturing coir products such as, mats, matting and handicrafts. Pay a visit to some of these factories and it will turn out to be a wonderful experience

THE DRIFTWOOD MUSEUM

This unique museum is well stored with a huge collection of driftwood sculptures collected from the islands of Andaman and Nicobar. The museum is the only one of its kind in the country. The Islands Andaman and Nicobar is also known as Bay islands and thats why the museum got its name the Bay Island Driftwood Museum. The works displayed here shows the artistic excellence and mere hard work of past generations. One can find here a huge collection of root sculptures of various shapes and designs. The most attractive driftwood sculptures here includes a tribal Jarva women, a handicapped family, Monkey, Lion, and Elephant. There are even sculptures depicting the Kargil War, fought between India and Pakisthan. The museum also showcases an amazing collection of flowers and buds. The museum is located at Chakranpadi and a few kilometers from Kumarakom. The museum opens from 10 to 5 everyday except Mondays and on Sunday the visiting time reduced from 12.30 to 5. The entry here is by pass.

THINGS FOR KIDS IN KUMARAKOM

Although Kumarakom does not offer a plethora of child friendly activities, there are a few attractions on offer that can be enjoyed by the entire family. Parents who are intent on taking the little ones here will really need to improvise and make use of the area's natural beauty, or be prepared to travel some distance to other destinations in Kerala where attractions are available.
