Browser: Use Mozilla Firefox, its supposed to become a competitor to IE, and it's pretty good speed-wise, and the features are comparable to IE.

I personally use "Spybot Search & Destroy" for ridding spyware, use ZoneAlarm Firewall by Zone Labs to protect from trojans and such, and use SPYWAREGUARD and SPYWAREBLASTER to prevent from Spyware. Also try AVG ANTIVIRUS from grisoft.com for virus protection.

First of all its important to keep the spyware out.
Use firefox instead of ie that makes a significant improvement.
Never click yes on the internet if you're not sure.
install sp2 on windows xp.
Install some other tools like spybot or adaware.
Don't use kazaa, torrents are much safer.
