Mallikarjun Temple, Sri Sailam
Srisailam is situated in the thick and inaccessible forests of the Nallamalai hills, in the northeastern portion of the Nandikotkur Taluk of Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh, India.
The presiding deities of Mallikarjuna Temple are Mallikarjuna (Shiva) and Bhramaramba (Devi). Is one of the twelve jyotirlinga shrines and is a major Hindu pilgrim centre.
The architecture of the ancient MallikarjunTemple (2nd century AD) is very beautiful and intricate. The temple has fort like walls, towers and a rich endowment of sculptural work. Temple of Tripurantakam, Siddavatam, Alampura and Umamaheswaram located in the vicinity of Mallikarjuna Jyotirlina are considered to be the four gateways to Sri Sailam.
Mahashivratri is the main festival celebrated.
