.htaccess HELP URGENT

I try uploading a file called .htaccess, which is needed for my php-nuke potal, and scipting to function properly and allow users, but it says it is not allowed, and this is an invalid file and not allowed on the server, help plz! I need to get this working!! :(

.htaccess is not critical. Most of the scripts will work with out .htaccess
