The Joint Controller of Technical Examinations of the Directorate of Technical Education has invited applications for a lateral-entry test to be held on April 27 for admission to the second year (third semester) of the B.Tech. course in government and government-controlled and private self-financing engineering colleges.

Apply on Govt. of Kerala, Directorate of Technical Education till February 11. The test will be held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Tirur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur.

The two-hour test (10 a.m. to noon) will have 120 objective-type questions from English, Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, Information Technology and Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. Each correct answer will be given three marks and wrong answer leads to deduction of one mark.

Admission will be made to 10 per cent of the seats additionally sanctioned for the lateral-entry scheme. The detailed syllabus is given in the prospectus on the website.


Those who have a diploma in Engineering or are appearing for the final-year diploma examination may apply.

The upper age limit is 28 as on the last date of submission of application. People from outside Kerala may also apply but they will be considered for admission only to the private colleges and the non-government seats in the government-controlled self-financing institutions.


The application fee of Rs. 750 (Rs. 375 for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) should be paid in the Shakti Account of the Joint Controller of Technical Examination at any branch of the State Bank of Travancore.

Candidates from the Scheduled Tribes whose animal family income does not exceed Rs. 40,000 are exempted from the payment; they should produce income certificates.

Hard copy of the online application, along with relevant documents and the Shakti challan, should reach the Joint Controller of Technical Examinations, Kaimanam, Thiruvananthapuram 695 040 by registered post or in person on or before February 16. Download admit cards from April 24 to 26 from the website.

MBA admission in Kerala University

The Institute of Management in Kerala (IMK) of the University of Kerala has invited applications for a common admission test for admission to the MBA course on its Karyavattom campus and extension centres and an MBA (Tourism) course on the campus alone.

The test will be held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Adoor, Thrissur and Kannur during the last week of April.

Those who have a general degree with 50 per cent marks in aggregate in Part III or a professional degree with 50 per cent marks or those appearing for the final qualifying examination may apply.
