i have used phpnuke and xoops. when i first got started using cms i found xoops to be so much more organized and helpful, i mean IMO it was eaier for me to find free good looking themes in xoops then phpnuke. Also i heard rumors that phpnuke isn't too secure.

phpsimple is the most easy php cms there is. But like the name says .. simple not only in use but in result. Mambo is suposed to be very good altough it has some template difficulties. For more advanced take typo 3.

another funny cms tool is snippet master. You don't need a database only put the atributes level on your server almost open (777) i believe and put snippet tags on the places where you want it to be allowerd to change.

works perfect and you can build your own website around it or also install snippet after..
