First of all, you don't have to pay for Linux. :D
And if you want to run Linux and Windows together, here are some choices:

    1. 2 OS separately
You can install Windows and Linux on separeted partition. When you boot up, you can choose OS.
    2. 2 OS (or more) at the same time
You can use some emulation softwares like VmWare, VirtualPC, or bochs to make an emulated system.
For example - Host OS is Windows XP, Guest OS is Mandrake running on VMWare.

    Satellite Azimuth Elevation Calculator
Get Mandrake 10.x, Fedora Core 3, Redhat in order of preferance.
Sure you can dual boot win & linux. See the excellent howto in http://www.tldp.org.

    10x a lot
in the computer shop they told me using mandrake 10 is the best choice for me...
but there's one more question(i'm good at making people bored by asking questions :) )
    my configuration is:
    celeron 433
    32+128=160 mb ram
    4.3 gb hdd
    4 mb vga ...

is it possible to use them both or will i buy a new hdd?

I hear Slackware isn't newbie friendly. A good site is www.distrowatch.com

Mandrake 10 will be VERY slow on that PC....

I'm not a linux expert, but I recommend using RedHat 9. I know it's EOL (End of Life), but this would run good on a 433 Mhz, 160 RAM.

I have on old HP that has a 300 Mhz AMD processor, 160 Megs RAM, and 2.4 gb HDD. I run RedHat 9 with no problems at all! RedHat is also a good distro for a beginner.
